Flower wall

As part of my workshop redesign, I stumbled across the idea of a flower wall. These images, which are all from a Google image search, are all made up of loads and loads of paper flowers, all in varying sizes and designs. I absolutely love them! I'm not allowed to paint the walls of the workshop so this is a really great way to cover up some of the wood while also making the room more pretty and girly.

Only thing is...this looks like it takes absolutely forever to do! I'll post an update when I get started.

There's a good tutorial on how to make some of the flowers on this blog, and also a lovely post from a lady who did this for their wedding here.

Floral arrangements

As part of my workshop redesign I have decided I want some big floral arrangements that can be a permanent feature in the room, made from artificial flowers. So I've been having a look for some inspiration. These images are all from Google image search and Pinterest, so all credit goes to the original sources.

Roses, peonies and tulips are my favourite types of flowers so I definitely want to incorporate all of these. I'm not very good with flower names so there are other flowers I really like in these photos but have no idea what they are!

I just need to build up a good stock of artificial flowers now before I can get started. I don't want ones that look really fake so I have been looking around. I often find garden centres have the best selections but they are a bit more pricey.

Workshop redesign

I'm hoping to start a Diploma in Floristry in September, and my parents have said I can have the cabin at the bottom of the garden to use as a workshop. It was previously used by my brothers as a gym/game room so it's very masculine at the moment, but I'm sure it won't be long until it's all girly :)

The main problem is that I'm not allowed to paint anything, it has carpet and has been a bit of a dumping ground for odd furniture that doesn't fit in the house. The bench press is going to be the most difficult bit to work around but I'm hoping to get some sort of screen so I can tuck it away in a corner and hide it out of sight.

Sympathy: Week 6

Here are the results of week 6 of the sympathy unit of my floristry course. And I really don't like it! I liked it at the start but the more I added to it the worse I think it got. I just think it looks messy and I much prefer to work neatly. I do like the little hearts I managed to make with the tulip leaves though!

Favourite flowers: miniature peonies

I have always been a fan of peonies, but there was a market in town the other day and now I think miniature peonies are even more beautiful!

They've really opened up since I bought them, but unfortunately the buds have not opened up.

Sympathy: Week 5

Here are the results from week 5 of my sympathy, and the most funeral-like design so far. It has also been pointed out to me that it looks like Jesus on the cross!

I didn't think I would enjoy this design much but I actually really did. We had free reign over how we wanted to add the leaves to the cross so it was nice to have control over the final result. I also got to have a go at plaiting a fern type leaf in front of the whole class. I'm really pleased with how it came out, and my course leader was very complimentary on my design.

Sympathy: Week 4

This is the result of week 4 of my sympathy course, and I think my favourite design so far. This one was really simple to make, but it was quite tricky to get decent bark with everyone else on my course fighting for it! It looks more natural though when they don't all match perfectly.

I need to work on my pin work though - if you turn this upside down there are pins sticking out everywhere! Not ideal when a customer could pick it up and stab themselves! We'll be using pins again next week so I can keep it in mind and try and prevent them sticking out.
