Easter teacup

I had an order this week for an Easter themed teacup, hence the Easter eggs in this arrangement! The muscari is starting to come out in the garden as well so I incorporated some of them, as well as the little yellow flowers although I'm not quite sure what they are.

Arrangement in a vase

One of my friend's dads requested a bouquet to give to someone at his work who was leaving. He also bought her a vase, then decided he wanted the arrangement in the vase. This was a bit more tricky than a usual hand tied bouquet, as there had to be enough flower material to ensure the arrangement didn't lose its shape in the vase. The vase was also really large so I had to enlist my sister's help to wrap it in the cellophane!

Mother's Day work experience

I wasn't originally planning to do any work experience over the Mother's Day weekend, but the florist asked me to come in so I wasn't going to say no! It was busy, but nowhere near as manic as last year! I mainly made up Interflora designs, which you get a photo for but there's not much point in following it as it'll never look the same! So I just made it look the best I could with the flowers available.

I think I've come a long way since I did my first bit of work experience, which was Mother's Day last year. As well as gaining invaluable experience, I've also increased my confidence and improved on all areas of my floristry skills. I've got some time off work in the summer so I'm hoping to do a few days then, when it should be quieter so I can actually take some time to learn the ins and outs of running a florist and ask questions.

Teacup arrangements

I've finally gotten round to setting up a facebook page for my flowers - find it at https://www.facebook.com/hannahlouiseflowers. For my first post I decided to promote my teacup flowers, as they're my favourite arrangement to make and I think they look so lovely. I've done them for birthdays before but they would also make a nice alternative to a Mother's Day bouquet.

Egg box arrangement

For the 3D display we're doing at college my group have chosen an Easter theme, and I've chosen to make an arrangement in an egg box.  So I decided to have a practice in advance of the actual day.

I think the eggs looks great - the centres were easier to remove than I thought and it doesn't take many flowers for it to look good. The eggs aren't particularly water tight though - I don't think there were any holes but the water did seep through the shells. I've coated the inside with glue now though so hopefully that will help! I'm not sure what flowers I'll be using on the day but I'm sure they'll be similar.

The Secret Garden window display

I've just finished the first part of the window display unit at college. We split into groups and chose a theme to base our display round, and my group chose "The Secret Garden" as our theme. We made five arrangements for the display - a twig pot arrangement, a topiary tree, a jam jar trio posy, a heart wreath and a hand tied. We got a distinction for our display so we must have a done a good job, and I certainly think we did!

Work experience - Dilly's

I did a couple of days of work experience at the start of this week, in a different florist to the one I usually go to. I had a good time but it was really hard work! The first day was mostly prep work and conditioning flowers, but on the second day I got to make up some bouquets and arrangements. Here are some photos of the things I made:
